  • Receive 1on1 health and fitness assessment and custom training & nutrition program
  • Be supported over a 6-week build-up training period, including training hikes and group classes
  • Improve your health & fitness while working towards a meaningful goal

Over the long weekend of 10-12 March 2018, a well trained and mentally prepared group of fit people will take off on a two day hiking/camping trip to the summit of Mt. Feathertop.

Mt. Feathertop is a beautiful 1897m mountain located in the Victorian alpine region near Harrietville. It’s the second highest mountain in Victoria. Departing Melbourne on the morning of the 10th, we travel in organised transportation to Harrietville, where we will have accommodation for the night. Early the next morning we put our packs on, carrying 15kg of equipment, clothing, food and water, and begin the more than 20km journey south-east towards the southern end of the razorback track, and along a beautiful ridgeline to the summit of Feathertop. The afternoon views from the summit as the sun is lowering towards the horizon is something you won’t easily forget. We set up camp not far from the top, have a well-needed nights rest, with a 12km walk the next morning back down to Harrietville, and our drive back to Melbourne. The total distance of the hike is 33km, with 1422m altitude increase.

MOUNT FEATHERTOP SUMMER HIKE

Departing Port Melbourne on organised transport Saturday morning, you will arrive at your accommodation in Harrietville by early afternoon. You have the afternoon to explore Harrietville before we have dinner as a group. A good night sleep is in order before the big day. First thing in the morning we put our 15-17kg packs on, filled with tent, sleeping bag, other equipment, clothing, food and water – everything you need to survive on the mountain. As we leave Harrietville at an altitude of 510m above sea level, we begin a gradual 1000m ascent along Bon Accord Walking Track towards the southern end of the Razerback. Once we reach the Razerback we turn north, following the ridgeline all the way to Mount Feathertop, reaching the summit by late afternoon. The views across the alpine region from the summit are spectacular. By the end of today you will have walked more than 20km. Once you’ve taken in the views from the summit, the group moves down towards Federation hut, where we establish a camp site for the evening, with a hot meal provided for the group. Everyone will sleep like babies this night, breathing in fresh air, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and after a big day of hiking. The next morning we wake up to the trees, views and brekky. After our campsite is packed up, backpacks loaded, we hike over 12km along Bungalow Spur Walking Track back to Harrietville, arriving around midday. We load up the transport, stop somewhere nice for a well deserved lunch, and make our way back to Melbourne, arriving no later than 6pm Monday 12th.

On the hike we will be carrying 15-17kg each in our packs – completely self-sufficient with our own sleeping gear, clothing, hiking equipment, food and water. The only food you won’t need to provide on the hike is dinner for Sunday night, which our guides will be organising.

A Physical and Mental Challenge - An Opportunity to Learn & Grow

This hike is designed to be a mental and physical challenge, testing your body and demanding proper training and preparation in order to make it through. To be selected to join the group of up to 12 people who will be trained and guided on this adventure you will need to show a willingness to work as a team player, help others and push your personal limits. We will support you throughout your build-up training and on the hike itself, however, ultimately it will be up to you to commit 100%, have a positive attitude, and challenge your own limits.

Hiking Equipment Required (a more detailed list will be provided to participants):

  • Hiking boots
  • Light weight hiking pants
  • Warm jumper, thermal underwear, t-shirts
  • 60-75lt trekking pack (WE SUPPLY)
  • Water-proof jacket (WE SUPPLY)
  • Summer alpine sleeping bag, inflatable ground mat (WE SUPPLY)
  • Alpine tent (WE SUPPLY)
  • Hiking poles – optional (WE SUPPLY)

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?

  • You love training and being strong and healthy but you feel a bit uninspired
  • You want to lose weight, but that isn’t enough, and just going to the gym without a meaningful goal is boring
  • You enjoy being in nature, exploring and want to learn about alpine hiking and camping
  • You have a quietly simmering desire to be challenged and want a way to have an exciting adventure that’s not crazy risky
  • You want to train, learn and face a challenge with a team of like-minded people

AFTER THE HIKE

In the week after the hike you will receive another 1on1 consultation with a health and movement specialist to assess your progress over the 6 weeks and help you with goal setting and a strategy going forward to ensure you keep achieving your health and fitness aspirations.

We will also have a post-summit dinner to celebrate everything you have achieved in the program. There will be prizes, delicious (& healthy) organic food, and drinks (non-alcoholic of course ;).
